Water Cooling
Water cooling is not for everyone. It is for those of us who have the
need to squeeze every ounce of processing power out of our PCs. To explain
why it is a must for the serious XOverclocker we need a very basic physics
class.
In life you do not get something for nothing! When overclocking your
PC this rule applies. In order to get the most speed out of your processor
you may increase clock cycles or bus speed. Since the clock on most
new processors is factory locked you may only increase bus speed. The
faster you go the more heat you create the more heat you create the
shorter the life of your processor. In some cases very short as when
you FRY it.
One solution to this dilemma is to provide better cooling. Air is used
to cool most systems but water has better thermal properties. It dissipates
heat quicker than air. This allows us to cool our processor’s
core while running it faster with more voltage to reach stable speeds
with longevity.
This theory has advanced greatly in the past months. There are many
turn key solutions out there and a lot of great info on how to set these
systems up. However we have found a lot of misinformation and unsupported
claims as well. A water cooling kit installed correctly will provide
some performance gains, but to get the best for your money you must
customize the systems. If you are handy and brave, I say go for it,
and send some pictures and screens, I love to see what you come up with.
